2008 Youth InternationalHeadline resultsThe results of today's Youth International in Ireland are as follows:
Top rod: Jamie Bell (Wales) with 3 fish. Match Report![]() Ireland hosted the 2008 Youth International on Lough Conn. Invariably the Irish hold the event at a time of the year when no one is fishing their lakes for brown trout, and this year was no exception. This, combined with the raising of the minimum size limit from 10 to 12 inches, effectively guaranteed that most of the competitors would blank! To make things worse, the organisation of the practice boats used by the English team was so bad that some of the lads only had one day's practice. Match day conditions were brutal; huge waves ensuring that the competition was a complete lottery. Many boats were not able to fish in the favoured areas. In the event of the 56 competitors, no less than 40 came in clean. Ireland caught 6 fish, Scotland & Wales 5 and England 4. Top English rod was Matthew Kidd with 2 fish weighting .86kilos. The other English rods to catch were the captain Stephen Pringle, and Patrick Senior who caught the largest English fish. |
