National Championship Results 2008The EYFA National was fished on a generally bright and breezy Grafham. For the first hour or so with heavy cloud cover the fish were high in the water and some of the competitors got off to a flyer. However sun and wind for most of the match made for testing conditions. All of the young anglers stuck to their guns, and many continued to catch as the fish did not really go down too far in the water. Winner Tom Gott targeted the quality fish in open water around Q buoy, catching 7 quality fish on pulling tactics. The second and third placings were boat partners Matt Holroyd and Carl Malpass. They concertrated in the area close to the harbour. Matt took 9 fish, and Carl 6. Coach Phil Dixon was most impressed with the skill and commitment of all of the competitors “in difficult conditions the lads fished brilliantly to produce a rod average of 2.5”.
