National Championship Results 2008

The EYFA National was fished on a generally bright and breezy Grafham. For the first hour or so with heavy cloud cover the fish were high in the water and some of the competitors got off to a flyer.

However sun and wind for most of the match made for testing conditions. All of the young anglers stuck to their guns, and many continued to catch as the fish did not really go down too far in the water.

Winner Tom Gott targeted the quality fish in open water around Q buoy, catching 7 quality fish on pulling tactics.

The second and third placings were boat partners Matt Holroyd and Carl Malpass. They concertrated in the area close to the harbour. Matt took 9 fish, and Carl 6.

Coach Phil Dixon was most impressed with the skill and commitment of all of the competitors “in difficult conditions the lads fished brilliantly to produce a rod average of 2.5”.

The top 12 who will represent England in 2009, plus the 2 reserves were as follows:

3. Carl Malpass 6 fish 14lb 3oz team
4. Matthew Kidd 6 fish 12lb 13oz team

7. Josh Fenton 4 fish 11lb 2oz team
8. Rob Thomas 4 fish 9lb 6oz team
9. Dom Sherrate 4 fish 8lb 7oz team
10. Stephen Pringle 4 fish 7lb 6oz team
11. Adam Worker 2 fish 6lb 15oz team
12. Kieran Bonas 3 fish   6lb 5oz team
13. Ryan Mathews 3 fish 6lb 0oz first reserve
14. Patrick Senior 2 fish 4lb 4oz second reserve
