The Hanak Open Fly-Fishing Competition

The competition consists of two parts - an extract from the host web site is set out below:

The Svatovaclavsky Cup is an Individual Lake Bank Fly-Fishing Competition organised by the South Bohemian Board of the Czech Fishing Union in cooperation with the Fly-Fishing Club of Ceske Budejovice and Fishing Club of Kaplice.

It was established in 2005 and takes places on 28th September which is Saint Venceslav Day.

The Theodor Kouba Memorial Competition is a Team River Fly-Fishing event organised by the South Bohemian Board of Czech Fishing Union in co-operation with the Fly-Fishing Club of Ceske Budejovice and Fishing Club of Vyssi Brod.

The competition was established in 1994 as an individual bank, river and lake event and was called "The Last Cup" and it used to take place in Vyssi Brod in mid November.

The present format of the competition now takes place on the river Vltava below Vyssi Brod during the last weekend in September and has done since 2006.

Since 2006, both competitions have been called The Hanak Open in honour of our main sponsor, the well-known Fishing Tackle Company Hanak. This company is one of the main providers of fly-fishing equipment in the Czech Republic and is a very keen promoter of "Catch & Release". We also thank all our other sponsors for their generous support.

The main aim of organising our competitions is to bring together Competition and Leisure Fly-Fishers as well as Home and Foreign Fly-Fishers to compare their skills and to make new friendships. Every year we invite around 100 competitors including some of our friends from England. In 2006, the English National Youth Team took part in our competitions. In 2008 The EYFA will send two teams to compete in The Hanak Open.

We also use these events to promote our Catch & Release philosophy and hopefully to also increase the number of people using our sport fisheries.

The catch statistics also provide important information to our Fishery Managers about the structure and density of the fish stocks in the river Vltava.
