NationalsNational Championship Results 2008The EYFA National was fished on a generally bright and breezy Grafham. For the first hour or so with heavy cloud cover the fish were high in the water and some of the competitors got off to a flyer. However sun and wind for most of the match made for testing conditions. All of the young anglers stuck to their guns, and many continued to catch as the fish did not really go down too far in the water. Winner Tom Gott targeted the quality fish in open water around Q buoy, catching 7 quality fish on pulling tactics. The second and third placings were boat partners Matt Holroyd and Carl Malpass. They concertrated in the area close to the harbour. Matt took 9 fish, and Carl 6. Coach Phil Dixon was most impressed with the skill and commitment of all of the competitors “in difficult conditions the lads fished brilliantly to produce a rod average of 2.5”. The top 12 who will represent England in 2009, plus the 2 reserves were as follows:
National Championship Results 2007The England Youth Flyfishing Association held its national loch-style championships at Grafham Water on Sunday and Tom Cooper from Rutland regained the title he first won in 2005. Conditions were perfect at the 1500 acre Cambridgeshire reservoir for the 25 competitors from all over England who fished this event to select next years International Team. Fish were near the surface early on but bright sunshine soon brought a change in tactics with sinking lines finding the fish. National Championships 2002On Sunday the England Youth Fly Fishing Association held its annual championships with 40 of the best young anglers fishing for the reservoirs famous trout. Aged 12 to 17 they fished in pairs with an experienced boatman in breezy conditions and had a great day with a total catch of nearly 200 trout weighing nearly 400 pounds. Individual winner was James Hunt (13) from Measham, Derbyshire with 12 fish followed by Luke Lavelle from Kingsthorpe Northampton and Luke Shevlin (14) from Rutland. Fourth place went to the only girl competitor, Lisa Isles (13) from Poulton le Fylde, Cumbria with 10 fish. |
